HERMOINE LANCASTER (Diana Quick)
A cool, practical woman who ran the Malton Hall estate for the last few years of her late husband's life. A great respecter of tradition, and not the most demonstrative of mothers to Felix Lancaster.

FELIX LANCASTER (Alastair Mackenzie)
An enviromental scientist and Antarctic explorer. A virgorous, terse man of action, with a tendency to see what he wants and grab it, without thought for the long-term consequences.

ROSE LANCASTER (Helen Baxendale)
Older sister of Felix, a midwife who has remained close to home, largely out of guilt over a childhood escapade which had disastrous consequences. Partner to Craig Coffley.

CRAIG COFFLEY (Ciaran Macmenamin)
A skilled tree surgeon and an outwardly calm, stolid type, Craig is nursing a surprising and dark secret.

REV. MELISSA ACKERS (Emma Cunniffe)
A dynamic, crusading, independent-minded vicar.

SONNY DESAI (Navin Chowdhry)
Charismatic and very wealthy businessman, and prospective new owner of Malton Hall. Sonny's smooth, educated charm doesn't quite conceal an essential coldness and ruthlessness.

CALEB SOUTHWOOD (Clive Merrison)
A local undertaken in Little Malton. A workaholic who sees his job as a calling; earnest and eager to please, but bolder and more immaginative than he looks.

DR. ISSAC VERNON (Joseph Mydell)
Caleb's partner, good-looking suave GP, who sees it as his role to support and bolster Caleb no matter what - even at risk to his career.

ELLIE LOXLEY (Sarah Middleton)
Caleb's assistant. Lively, observant and a little rash. Daughter of Bobbie Loxley.

BOBBIE LOXLEY (Elizabeth Rider)
Tenant farmer. A brisk, highly capable woman, furious at the prospect of seeing her farm being sold to the highest bidder.
