PAT EDHOUSE'S REPORT
Well, last Saturday I had a wonderful day at the Dr. Who convention at Latimer, deep in the heart of Midsomerland. Of course the main reason I was there was to meet John Nettles, but it was also good to meet Louise Jameson who played his girlfriend in Bergerac for four years.
The convention was held in a nice hotel and it was good to meet up with Joan Street, and also Jutta who had travelled from Germany for the weekend. There were not as many people there as I'd expected, and most were more interested in the Dr. Who actors and writers. The day began with John and Louise on the stage chatting about their time in Jersey filming Bergerac. They had obviously enjoyed their time there, Louise said that the locals loved the series and often enjoyed being extras, when this happened the car park was full of Rolls Royce cars, some with chauffeurs waiting. It was a really entertaining start to the day. After this you could have a photo done professionally with John, it was developed within a couple of hours and John was on hand to autograph the pic during the afternoon.
For me the best part of the day was the "meet and greet" session with John. This was a chance to have coffee and a chat with him, a group of us sat around a table for 45 minutes and just - well, chatted. It was very informal and relaxed and I was able to tell him about the MM Society, he was amazed when I said that at our first convention we had a group of people who had travelled from Hawaii.
You can see he's looking really good, maybe because he no longer has the stress of catching all those murderers in Midsomer.
With thanks to Pat for this.
